Help- while learning a Spanish map is it correct to put an El or La before the country?

I need to know for my Spanish final tomorrow- we are putting the names of the countries with the capitals and it has to be in accurate Spanish.

Help- while learning a Spanish map is it correct to put an El or La before the country?
Yes/Si!
Reply:el mapa!!! aiya aiya aiya
Reply:you only put el or la in front of some... i don't know them though. sorry.
Reply:If the last vowel is an O then El if its an A then its La.... El is for masculine names exp. last vowel being I, O, and U... La is for feminine names exp. last vowel being A, and E.... Good luck!
Reply:Countries not ending in –a are usually masculine.

el Chile Chile

los Estados Unidos United States

Countries ending in –a are usually feminine.

la España Spain

la Suiza Switzerland
Reply:No.

Only when "El" or "La" are in the name of the country.

Ex. "El Salvador"

Spain is "España" (without "la"), France is "Francia (without "la"), Paraguay is "Paraguay" (without "el") etc.

You could see something about this in: http://www.mansionspanish.com/cursobasic...
