Size of Particles:

The size of the different soil particles and their relative proportions have a great influence on the soil’s productivity. This is because the size of a particle determines how well it will hold on to water, other soil particles, and nutrients. These capabilities in turn affect the soil’s ability to grow plants.

The most productive soils have a medium texture, neither too coarse and loose nor too fine and tight. This texture provides a good rooting medium for plants and stores and releases chemicals and water to plant roots easily, facilitating good growth.
