Help!!!!!!!!?

Help, i ran out of vanilla extract for my pound cake! what can i use instead, i dont have almond extract or lemon extract either! Should i just not use it at all?????

Have you got a fresh lemon? add some lemon zest.


A touch of rum , or brandy wouldn't go badly either :)
Reply:I'm assuming you don't have a vanilla bean to make your own vanilla extract. There is no equivalent for vanilla - it has its own unique, indescribable, je-ne-sais-quoi flavor. Other extracts may be substituted and they will impart their own particular flavor. Jamaican rum, such as Meyers Rum or a good bourbon whiskey can also be substituted. To substitute rum or whiskey add a teaspoon then taste test. Repeat until the taste is satisfactory to you.

Reply:Use cinnamon, it'll have a completely different flavor but it will be delicious.
Reply:Do you have sweet liquor in the house? It usually works well. Anything like rum, brandy, lemoncello, khalua. If not, it won't be terrible if you leave it out but a spash of fruit juice will work in a pinch.
