I thought sunlight detergent smelled like mold. Try a different detergent.
Reply:Adding 1 cup white vinegar in place of fabric softener to the rinse will help kill any mold in the washer and once the laundry is dried, the vinegar smell will be gone. Removing the laundry promptly after the wash cycle completes will help with this. You also need to always make sure that the washer door is left open allowing it to properly dry out or you will get that funky smell as well.
Reply:Buy a good detergent first of all...GAIN is awesome for giving clothing a really good smell. I absolutely love it...

The brand that you buy is not a good brand...I use the cheaper brands like the one you are using to wash my rags, and rugs in...and I don't use it for my clothing..

I know what you mean by the smell of it though when it is done washing...it doesn't smell clean at all.

Try GAIN...and you can buy it with Febreeze in it too...I think the GAIN DRYER SHEETS are a good choice too. They also have Febreeze in them..

Good luck and I hope this works for you...
Reply:Try adding some borax powder to the wash or else baking soda. If you are not drying your clothes right after washing, mildew will develop in the wet clothes in the washer (you may need to sterilize the washer compartment with a clorax wash cycle). If you have well water and neither of these suggestions works, have the water tested for bacteria or high sulfur (rotten egg smell...) content.
Reply:Pour a cup of white vinegar into the wash load and also use it as fabric softener. I'd let it soak for a little while. Vinegar is great for locking in bright colors, removing all soap residue from your clothes (residue makes clothes dingy over time) . It will also kill germs like bleach does with out turning you clothes white. I use it in all my laundry. My son is a skate boarder and gets his clothes really dirty, sometimes they sit in a pile and don't small like roses. It always works. Be sure you put them right into the dryer or hang them up. If you let them sit after washing they will smell sour and moldy. Good luck.
